VERDICT
Clearly above average. Only a couple of issues keep this from being best in class.

PROS

  • The LG Chromebase is inexpensive compared to competing Windows all-in-one PCs, boots quickly, and performs well.
  • The 1080p IPS display looks good.
  • Chrome OS is simple and easy to use.

CONS

  • Chrome OS is a basic operating system and can't run Windows desktop programs.
  • The built-in speakers are quiet. You'll want headphones or external speakers.
  • LG's included keyboard and mouse are basic.
While a Chromebook is a laptop and a Chromebox is a desktop you hook up to a monitor, a Chromebase is an all-in-one PC--it's essentially a Chromebox combined with a display. Like other Chrome hardware, the Chromebase runs Chrome OS, Google's own operating system designed for browsing the Web and running Chrome apps. It boots quickly, doesn't have much local storage, and doesn't run Windows applications. If you can do everything in Chrome on your computer, Google's Chrome hardware is targeted at you.

It is also a very nice looking unit, something of an iMac lookalike due to the stand, although definitely not the same build quality.
