Clearly above average. Only a couple of issues keep this from being best in class.

PROS

  • These Monoprice headphones have great sound quality for their price.
  • The headphones do a surprisingly good job keeping sound from leaking out and annoying passersby.
  • Several breakable parts, including the sound cable and ear pads, are replaceable. There's no need to throw out the headphones if they break.

CONS

  • Because of the ear pad material, sweat tends to gather around the ears of some users.
  • There is little protection from background noise.
  • Although the middle and high sounds are decent quality, the bass could use more emphasis.
The Monoprice Hi-Fi Over-the-Ear Headphones do not break new ground or set any records. Unremarkable as they are, these headphones are a great deal for the price. They don’t have the range or distortion issues that other headphones in their price range have, though they could use more bass. The padded headband and soft ear pads are comfortable to wear. With the inline controller--compatible with iOS and Android devices--you can answer or end calls and control playback and volume. These wired headphones come in a hard-shelled zippered case along with a detachable 1/8-inch cord.

They get the midrange right, they have decent and controlled bass, and they lack any nasty treble spikes. If you put a decently recorded track into them, you get more than acceptable sound out the other end.

I don't do super long gaming but I had no problems with them 1-3 hour gaming sessions.

Monoprice found a way to make it seem simple instead of barebones if that makes any sense. Once they’re on your head they don’t feel or sound like $15 headphones even though they might look like it at first glance. Basically if you want good sound for cheap Monoprice has again exceeded expectations.

If it isn't obvious, these headphones are not for booming bass lovers.

They can make your ears a little bit sweaty over longer listening sessions, but they create a good seal without feeling like they're crushing your skull. The earcups are flexible, too, though they don't fold up.
