PROS

  • The price is reasonable for an Android tablet that becomes an impressive gaming tablet with the addition of the optional controller.
  • Performance is excellent thanks to the Tegra K1 processor.
  • Nvidia provides a strong game store.

CONS

  • The tablet is a fingerprint magnet.
  • No cables are included. The Shield controller and the tablet cover are sold separately.
  • You need a flat surface in order to prop up the screen to play, unlike portable handheld gaming devices.
Nvidia packs a lot of performance into its Shield tablet K1. The tablet runs on the company’s Tegra K1 processor, which wins rave reviews for its ability to deliver smooth gaming. There are two ways to play games on the table: using the Nvidia Gamestream technology to stream games from your PC to your tablet, and by streaming games from Nvidia’s GeForce NOW gaming service--a Netflix-like source for games. The tablet comes with 16GB of storage, expandable via its microSD slot, and it boasts an 8-inch, 1920 X 1200 multi-touch full-HD display. Its speakers are front facing, still a rarity in tablets.

This device will cost you $200 USD. That's a steal for what you get. Based on the support NVIDIA has continued to give for devices it sold several years ago, it's also a sound investment in a device that'll last you years to come.
