Clearly above average. Only a couple of issues keep this from being best in class.

PROS

  • The five-axis image stabilization makes it possible to capture handheld shots at low shutter speeds.
  • The High Res shot mode captures 40MP JPEG or 64MP RAW images.
  • The E-M5 Mark II introduces a host of improved video features.

CONS

  • The slow wakeup time with Quick Sleep enabled can cause a photographer to miss a shot.
  • The camera has no 4K video support.
  • The E-M Mark II has no built-in flash. Instead it uses a clip-on bounceable flash.
The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II is mirrorless micro four-thirds digital camera with the retro looks of an old SLR. It boasts a new five-axis image stabilization that lets a shutterbug click handheld shots at shutter speeds as low as 1/4 second. Designed to be dustproof and weatherproof, the unit takes 16-megapixel images in normal mode, but it has a High Res shot mode that combines the information in eight consecutive shots to create 40-megapixel JPEG and 64-megapixel RAW files. In addition, the camera supports Wi-Fi image transfer and remote control, as well as cinema-quality video.

Amazing Camera
If you are considering the Micro 4/3 system, this is a top tier camera to consider. It has image stabilization built into the body so you don't have to worry about buying stabilized lenses. This feature alone is worth it. Add to that the extensive lens catalog of the system and the compactness of the camera, and you can't go wrong. You will be surprised at how clean your pictures come out as well as stabilized video. The new Mk. II version also has increased video options such as 24fps film modes.
