VERDICT
Recommended, but seriously flawed. There are probably better alternatives.

based on the following sites

PROS

  • The HX-A1 camera is a sturdy but lightweight compact camera that shoots 1080p at 30 fps.
  • The A1 can shoot in total darkness using a third-party IR light source, and it has built-in Wi-Fi.
  • The Panasonic is dust proof, waterproof to 5 feet, and freeze proof to 14 degrees Fahrenheit.

CONS

  • There's no waterproof case more effective than the underwater rating on the camera.
  • The battery life won't support long shoots, and the 3.54-megapixel sensor is less than half the GoPro Hero+ rating of 8 megapixels..
  • It requires special Micro SD cards, and the battery isn't replaceable.
Going head to head with GoPro and others, the Panasonic HX-A1 wearable action camera weighs in at 1.6 ounces. and is dust, water, shock, and freeze proof. The cigar-shaped camera comes with a 1/3-inch MOS image sensor to shoot video at 1080p or 720p in regular or slow motion. The 2.6mm F/2.8 lens covers 150 degrees, or you can swap to the infrared cap and capture at 0 lux light levels using a third-party IR light source. Connect with Wi-Fi or USB for instant downloading and camera control, or wirelessly twin with another late-model Panasonic camcorder for picture-in-picture videos. Battery life is a little weak, but you can get a battery extender for $100 extra.
