K-1by Pentax
PROS
- The K-1 has an impressive list of features including Wi-Fi, GPS and an on-body lighting system, which makes it easy to navigate in the dark.
- Although the K-1 is not cheap, the high quality of its images and its impressive specifications still make it a competitive option in its price range.
- The K-1 boasts an impressive number of available lenses, and being backward compatible with older K-mount Pentax lenses bolsters this repertoire.
CONS
- Although the K-1's still image quality is superb, the camera fumbles in the video department with a lack of 4K support and occasional frame rate problems when capturing in HD.
- Weighing in at more than two pounds, the K-1 is a particularly heavy camera, sometimes making it hard to wield, and it doesn't include a built-in flash strobe.
- The K-1's battery life is rated at 760 shots, somewhat low for a high-end DSLR.

After many years of waiting, the Pentax K-1 is a genuine competitor to the other full-frame brands, especially as Pentax have also begun to expand their range of professional full-frame lenses to go with the new body. If you're interested in full-frame and you haven't yet made a serious investment in one particular brand, then the new Pentax K-1 should definitely be on your shopping short-list.

There's no denying the K-1 is good value for money. It's well built, offers plenty of user-adjustable controls (most of them genuinely useful) and comes with a relatively 'affordable' price tag, when compared with similar cameras in its category. In addition, our tests show it to be a competent performer when shooting still photos.

The Pentax K-1 has an excellent collection of features that will appeal to serious photographers, and it feels good in your hand. It makes a great choice for landscape and still life photographers, but sports shooters should look elsewhere for a fast AF system.

All things considered, the Pentax K-1 strikes us as one heck of a camera, and an incredibly impressive first entry in the full-frame segment from Ricoh. Doubly so when one considers that it has arrived at a very aggressive pricepoint, as well.

We’ve been waiting so long for a full frame Pentax DSLR that there was always a risk it might feel like a let-down. But we’re pleased to say that if anything, the opposite is true – we’re pleasantly surprised by just how much Ricoh has managed to fit into its Pentax K-1 while maintaining an unexpectedly low price point for its specification

It’s the best price for this size of sensor on a DSLR (about $1,500 less that the competition), but at $1,799 it’s still a hefty chunk of change. Also if you don’t have many, or any, full frame lenses, the benefits go down as well. If you do have full frame lenses and a bit of cash burning a hole in your pocket, go for it!
If there were ever a traditional sized DSLR that could get me to dump my existing DSLR rig and change systems, the Pentax K-1 would be it.

The K-1 is great news for loyal Pentax owners. You finally have something to upgrade to if you fancy going the full-frame route – and why the hell wouldn't you? It's also a superb value alternative to the big guns from Canon and Nikon, and I suppose Sony if you're including its range of full-frame mirrorless cameras.
