VERDICT
A solid product. Despite some flaws, it's still a good value.

PROS

  • The Voyager Edge package includes a portable charging case, which provides an extra 10 hours of battery life.
  • The headset feels light to wear and comfortable, given the boom-style design.
  • Call quality is generally impressive for both in-ear sound and the quality of your voice at the other end.

CONS

  • As far as noise cancellation goes, the Voyager Edge delivers just so-so wind resistance.
  • Depending on the size and shape of your ear canal, the eartips don't always form a tight seal, and you might have to fiddle a bit to get the fit right.
  • In some tests, the headset did not live up to its advertised range of 33 feet; the signal started to falter at about 15 feet.
It's such a pain when you're on the run and your Bluetooth headset dies--right when you need it. Plantronics helps ease this pain with the Voyager Edge: The bundle includes a portable storage case that doubles as a charger to give you up to 10 hours of additional talk time. The company strives to give you a hands-free experience. Pick up a call just by putting on the headset or let it pause your music when it detects an incoming call. Utter a voice command to take a call instead of tapping a button. A free Plantronics app is available for iPhone and Android users.

After fiddling with the Edge's ear tip for a spell...I was able to find my personal sweet spot. Basically if I angled the ear tip's stabilizer loop so that it hooked into the inner fold of my ear, then the device stayed put.

The Edge comes equipped with accelerometers and capacitive sensors, letting you answer calls just by picking the Edge up and placing it in your ear. You can also simply say "answer" to answer incoming calls. Both the motion gestures and voice commands worked well in my tests.

At the end of the day, its grossly out of proportioned price eats away at its potential of being a reasonably attractive option.

As for battery life, Plantronics rates the Voyager Edge as good for up to 6hrs of talk time from a full charge. In a mixture of tests with an iPhone 5s and Samsung Galaxy S5, I saw in the region of 5 to 5.5 hours.
