Irredeemable. Little better than setting your money on fire.

PROS

  • This phone is incredibly fast and has a battery to get through a day of use.
  • The Note 7 features the same camera Samsung used in the Galaxy S7, and it's still really good.
  • Samsung extended the waterproof housing to the Note's S Pen, making it possible to write and draw underwater.

CONS

  • This model has suffered above average battery failures and has been taken off the market.
  • At $850, it's an expensive investment.
  • Carriers still hold power over Samsung, forcing the company to load unnecessary apps onto its devices. The Note 7 is no exception.
Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 got off to a good start, but then it was hit with a battery recall and several dozen cases of smoking, burning, and exploding batteries. When the replacement of the Note 7 started to suffer the same problems, Samsung cancelled the entire product, so it is no longer available for purchase. To be clear, the Note 7 received many positive critical reviews and was a well-liked model--but reviewers didn't take the battery issues into consideration and it's no longer offically available for purchase.

Like the S7 Edge, the Note 7 is snappy and rapidly crunches through pretty much anything you might throw at it.

The price is high, though not unheard of, and if you want the best, paying a lot for it shouldn’t come as a surprise. And while the carrier bloatware is still a problem, the Note 7 is easily the best big phone I’ve ever used and quite a few steps ahead of its competitors.

The onboard storage and microSD card slots really speak to power users while the design will make this phone more accessible for many users who are even the slightest bit apprehensive toward larger displays. Even then, the display experience is growing to be more than just a conduit for showing off Android interfaces, and the S Pen is probably the most useful than it has ever been.

In our testing, we found the camera to be just as good if not better than the iPhone 6S Plus’ camera. Photos turned out absolutely beautiful in any lighting. Close ups were sharp and all the details were present, even in tricky mixed lighting situations.

Just like the S7 and S7 Edge, the Note 7 takes clear, bright, crisp photos in indoor, outdoor and low-light settings. Selfies are generally good, too, especially when the screen lights up as a flash for dark environments.
