VERDICT
A solid product. Despite some flaws, it's still a good value.

PROS

  • The buds feel durable, attach to a sturdy cable--and are quite lightweight to boot.
  • Solid sound quality, especially considering the very low price; it's particularly strong in the bass and mid-range.
  • When it comes to tuning out external noise, this pair delivered the goods for most folks.

CONS

  • If you've got good ears, you might feel the treble sounds overly snappy or abrasive.
  • Given the thickness of the earpieces, the small-sized silicone tips might not be dainty enough for people with teensy ear canals.
  • Depending on your ear shape, you may not arrive at a comfy fit right off the bat.
In the sub-$50 price bucket, the Shure SE112 earbuds appear to have pleased a lot of audio nuts. The components feel solid, and you get a whole lot of robust sound across the board (although you might find the highs overly emphasized). The box includes a baggie containing oversized silicone tips (small, medium, and large), which help block outside noise. Plus, Shure throws in a handy cleaning tool to deal with lint and pesky earwax. If you're concerned that the SE112 lacks a remote and microphone, then you can step up to the Shure SE112M+ for another $10, which delivers these two very things.

They’re not packed with features, in fact, they pretty much just have one feature: they make things sound good.

With a bit of music going at mid-level, the earphones basically wiped out the chaos of the outside world, even on a crowded bus ride home.

I found it takes about 20 hours of use to break these in. Sound then, is somewhat warm, which means the mids and highs are not overly accentuated but well balanced. Bass is full but not overblown.
