PROS

  • Small, slick and unobtrusive, the oblong-shaped. Bluetooth-enabled gizmo can be clipped to any piece of clothing or to an optional wristband, which comes in the package.
  • Ditto's mobile app for iPhones and Android phones is easy to use.
  • Ditto's replaceable battery lasts up to a couple of months, depending on usage.

CONS

  • Ditto can't display the content of messages.
  • The diminutive product can be easy to lose.
  • Because smartphones can also operate in vibrate mode, you might find it difficult to justify the cost of an extra device like Ditto, unless you're going to places where cell phone use is either inconvenient (such as gyms) or banned entirely (as in courtrooms).
Simple Matters' Ditto is plain and simple. While many other companies have created basic fitness wearables, Simple Matters' device is one of the first to be dedicated to alert notifications. The tiny, inexpensive clip-on gadget performs its single function well. Through configurations in its smartphone app, you can get Ditto to use different vibration patterns depending on who is trying to contact you or whether a message is a phone call or an email. Many smartwatches also provide alert notifications. However, unlike a watch, Ditto can't give you the time of day.

The Kickstarter-funded Ditto, from Simple Matters, is a streamlined wearable device that does one thing and one thing only: It vibrates when you receive texts, when you receive emails, when you walk too far away from your phone, and when you set an alarm. There are no buttons and no display.

Ditto has another major perk – it lacks any charging cables because its battery can last between four and six months. Ditto is always on, and you’ll get an alert from Ditto’s companion app when its coin cell battery needs to be replaced and it is completely waterproof.

For $40, Ditto clips onto clothing and buzzes when your smartphone rings. It’s clever in theory, but not useful enough in reality.

It is actually made up of two parts: a base and a clip that also contains a small watch battery. When you get the Ditto, you have to insert the battery into the clip and then attach the clip to the base; it's an easy process that takes maybe five minutes. You then pair the unit to your phone via Bluetooth using the Ditto app (available for iOS or Android).

If you’re not the type that wants to spend a small fortune on a smartwatch, but you’d still like the ability to be in the know when you need to be, the Ditto does all of the basic functions of said watch, and it does them pretty well.
