A definite buy! This is among the best in its class.

based on the following sites

PROS

  • The PLAY:1 is a stylish, solid and well-made--yet affordable--way to enter the Sonos universe.
  • The Controller app offers easy setup, along with global search capability across all albums, artists and songs from both your library and every available streaming service.
  • The wireless streaming is reliable, and the sound quality and volume are impressive for a speaker of its size.

CONS

  • With no wired inputs, music is limited to streaming and --inflexibly--only through the Sonos app.
  • The speaker's lack of a battery and need to be plugged in give it some sonic oomph but limit its portability.
  • Despite its impressive list of streaming services, Sonos doesn't currently support several well-known services, including Google Music All Access and iTunes Radio, nor can it handle high-resolution audio.
The PLAY:1 is the smallest and least expensive of the Sonos wireless/multiroom speakers. After you set it up through a phone, tablet or computer app, it can receive audio stored on your devices and network, and from many top streaming services and thousands of Internet radio stations as a standalone speaker. Two PLAY:1 speakers can be configured as a pair either to produce stereo or to act as right rear and left rear channels in a surround sound setup in conjunction with a Sonos soundbar and subwoofer. They can also be placed in separate rooms with different Sonos speakers wirelessly receiving different audio.

It’s an impressive performance, and certainly shows up the Pure Jongo S3, which sounds lightweight and insubstantial in comparison.

It’s far heavier than it looks, and compared to just about any other audio device costing under £200 is impeccably solid. Drop one on your foot and it’s undoubtedly the foot that would suffer the most damage.

Even with the volume maxed out, the Play:1 refuses to distort, so you never have to worry about the sound getting harsh.

The Sonos Play:1 does everything Sonos does well, and it does it for a sub-$200-and-thus-doesn’t-require-too-much-discussion price point. The Play:1 should appeal both to folks who have already bought into the Sonos ecosystem and are looking for a relatively inexpensive way of expanding to more rooms, as well as customers looking to purchase their first Sonos product.

Great Product. Need to Improve UI
Awesome. I love my Sonos. Great sound. Easy to set up. Easy to integrate. The more streaming services they get on the better. I would say that they need to continue to improve their UI

Great for non-tech-savvy folks!
I won this product at a work event and gifted it to my not-so-tech-savvy father. He was able to use it and connect his brand new smartphone easily! He loves the product and it gets used fairly often.
