Playbarby Sonos
PROS
- Achieving surround sound effectively by itself, the Sonos Playbar can be loud without distortion and delivers smooth sound that is easy on the ears,
- The attractive unit can be mounted on the wall or placed on a mantle or table under your TV.
- The soundbar is easy to set up and can be expanded to 3.1 or 5.1 with existing Sonos speakers.
CONS
- The heavy sound processing could offend audio purists, and optical input for TV limits its use.
- It's pricey considering it does not come with a subwoofer or 5.1 speakers. By the time you add these, you have an $1800 system.
- The Playbar requires a hardwired Ethernet connection to set up unless you already have a Sonos Bridge, and there isn't a hardware remote control..

On its own, the Playbar is bright and almost tinny—even if everything sounds clear. Using the controller app, you can push up the bass equalization, but if you push it too far, the lows sound muddy.
I really like the idea that the Sonos PLAYBAR is a TV sound bar, and a wireless music streaming device at the same time.
