PROS

  • Setup is easy and quick.
  • Print quality is good; the 2+ supports resolutions up to 60 microns.
  • Noise levels are relatively low during printing.

CONS

  • It lacks an auto calibration feature. Calibration on the Ultimaker 2+ must be performed manually.
  • There's no wireless or USB connection for direct printing from a computer; printing is supported via SD card only.
  • Though it's $500 cheaper than the older Ultimaker 2, it's still expensive.
The Ultimaker 2+ 3D printer is the successor to the Ultimaker 2. It has a single extruder and comes with four nozzles of varying diameters. Its heated glass build plate can be removed for easy cleanup. Physically, the 2+ is fairly compact at 14 by 13.5 by 15.3 inches. It supports printing with three different materials: PLA, ABS, and CPE. Connectivity is limited to an SD memory card slot, and the Cura design software is available as a free download.

The really exciting changes are found on the back of the machine. The new feeder improves grip and provides more torque to push the filament through the Bowden tube. Removing or manually feeding filament is no longer an issue either — a grip-release button allows the user to hand feed or pull out the filament without the need for the motor.
