Clearly above average. Only a couple of issues keep this from being best in class.

PROS

  • The Viewsonic LightStream Pro7827HD's color accuracy is excellent for the price, and it provides ISF modes for pro video calibrators to lock off picture settings.
  • The projector is capable of sufficient brightness to light up a 110-inch or larger screen.
  • A hidden compartment located on the top of the LightStream Pro7827HD lets you conveniently plug in a Roku or Amazon Fire TV stick for easy wireless video streaming.

CONS

  • The LightStream Pro7827HD has below-average screen uniformity, though this should only be visible with test patterns and not regular content such as movies or TV.
  • The projector has high fan noise when set to Full Power mode--enough to be distracting when set up a few feet away on a table.
  • Relatively high input lag time makes the LightStream Pro7827HD a less than optimal choice for serious gamers, though its performance is fine for casual, console-based gaming.
Viewsonic made a big splash in the home entertainment market with the introduction of its LightStream Pro7827HD 3D projector. Affordably priced, the 1080p-resolution single-chip DLP model delivers enough brightness to handle 110-inch and larger screens and sufficient contrast to make movies look good in both dark and not-so-dark rooms. It also has a hidden compartment to plug in a Roku or Amazon Fire TV stick for wireless video streaming. The only real downside to this budget projector is the fan noise, which can be loud when the lamp is set to Full Power mode.

Rated at 2,200 lumens, it can throw a suitably large image that can stand up to ambient light in a living room, but its Eco mode and lower brightness presets offer comfortable brightness levels for theater-dark lighting as well.

The strange mix of business and home-entertainment features the Pro7827HD delivers meant I had little preconceived idea of what its pictures would look like. But it quickly becomes apparent that it’s a far more satisfying movie projector than I’d expected for the price.

Naturally, if you were looking for a full home cinema experience then I would advise adding external speakers but, for quickly watching a film within 5 minutes of unpacking the Pro7827HD, the internal sound slinger did really well.

Ultimately, my main issue with the ViewSonic was that its contrast lacked the visual punch I’m used to seeing with other projectors—but then again, those models typically cost thousands more than the Pro7827HD.

Whether for watching movies, sports, or doing the occasional business presentation, the Viewsonic Pro7827HD can adapt to your needs far more successfully than I’d have thought possible for £600/$900.
