VERDICT
A solid product. Despite some flaws, it's still a good value.

PROS

  • The Visio E55 has excellent blacks, which makes it a great TV for playing movies.
  • The TV has good motion blur--sports and fast-moving video games look great.
  • This unit displays a strong overall gaming performance.

CONS

  • This Visio TV falls below average when it comes to playing low-resolution videos.
  • Sound are distorted at higher volumes, and bass could be more present.
  • Smart features are limited; the main services, including Amazon, Netflix, YouTube, and Hulu Plus, are all there, but you won't find much beyond that.
Vizio's E55-C1 is a minimalist, budget LED HDTV that performs well in some areas and not so well in others. The C2 is almost identical to the C1 except for a better audio component. This TV's deep blacks and low input lag make it great for watching movies and playing video games, but its inability to effectively upscale low-resolution content means that cable won't look quite as sexy. Vizio claims an "effective" refresh rate of 120 hertz, though videophiles will want to be aware that the TV's panel has a true refresh rate of just half that.

Screen glare is an issue that will really show up at night from in-room background lighting. Arrangement of lights will become important.

Minimalist to the extreme, the all-black E series is characterized by a pleasingly thin frame around the picture, a matte-black accent strip along the bottom and the trademark right-justified Vizio logo, flush against the bottom rather than dangling like a misplaced browser tab as it did last year.

I don't like the 'feet' it stands on, they are more like 'talons' and not terribly confidence inspiring, I am looking for an entertainment center with a mounting bracket for some stability.
