A solid product. Despite some flaws, it's still a good value.

PROS

  • With the E65-C3, Vizio brings a high-end feature--full array local dimming--to an affordable, entry-level TV.
  • Vizio's app menu provides a solid selection of streaming options.
  • Minimal motion blur makes the E65-C3 a good option for games.

CONS

  • Spotty audio performance makes an external sound system or sound bar a must.
  • While the E65-C3 is capable of displaying deep blacks, shadow detail is just average.
  • Vizio's involuntary software updates can be a source of annoyance.
At just under a grand, the E65-C3 is priced right for a 65-inch smart HDTV that has full-array local dimming and a satisfying selection of apps. Performance-wise, Vizio’s set has impressive screen uniformity, contrast, and accurate color, though its handling of shadow detail could stand some improvement. The E65-C3’s audio performance is considerably less impressive, but that’s a problem that can be easily addressed by adding an external sound bar or speaker system.

Vizio's E series is a tremendous value, and its picture quality, style and features are robust enough to please just about everybody. This TV doesn't have 4K resolution and the future-proofy feeling that goes along with it, but its price is so low, you'll probably be able to afford a larger size with the savings over a 4K model.

Its most noteworthy feature is its full-array LED backlighting, which divides the screen into 12 separate zones that can be dynamically dimmed or brightened. It generally makes for better contrast, particularly in scenes with both dark and bright elements.
