Instagram's Reels Officially Launched, and It's Basically TikTok

As TikTok's future remains in limbo, Instagram not-so-quietly launched Reels, a feature that lets creators edit multi-clip videos with music, effects, and other creative tools. You can create 15-second clips within the Instagram app and post them to your feed, story, or the Reels page in the Explorer tab if your profile is public.

So, basically it's TikTok, but on Instagram.

Here's how it works

Search for a song from Instagram's music library or use your own original song. People can use your original audio in their videos, which will then be attributed to you. If you want to add an effect, browse through the library created by both Instagram and creators. You can set a timer and countdown to record clips hands-free.

There's also a speed feature that allows you to speed up or slow down the video or audio, as well as an align feature to help you create seamless transitions from clip to clip. Reels can be recorded one at a time, all together, or using videos uploaded from your gallery.

Reels is available now in the U.S. and over 50 other countries.
