You can now buy rapid at-home COVID-19 tests, but just a heads up — they can be pretty hard to come by, especially right now as variants surge across the U.S.
The FDA has authorized 10 direct-to-consumer at-home COVID tests that are all over-the-counter. Many of those are PCR tests which detect active COVID infections and provide results in one to two days after the sample is received by the lab. But CVS and Walgreens are selling at-home rapid antigen tests that provide results in minutes.
Where to buy rapid at-home COVID tests
You can purchase test kits at CVS either online or in the store. CVS offers BinaxNOW — two tests for $23.99 with results in 15 minutes, and Ellume — one test with results in 15 minutes for $34.99.
Walgreens also sells BinaxNOW test kits that can be purchased online or in the store.
Since supplies are limited and are selling out at many stores, if you need a test kit immediately, your best bet is to call ahead to a store to find out if there are any tests in stock, and if so, head over right away to make your purchase before it's sold out. If you can wait or are just stocking up, it might be easier to plan an online order.
