Emoji reactions are coming to Google Docs, bringing an element of fun to your work space. In an announcement post, Google says that now instead of responding to text with a written comment, you'll be able to respond with a simple emoji. They provide a "less formal alternative" way to express your opinions about the content in a document.
All the latest emoji will be available to use, including gender neutral emoji and others that accurately reflect your identity. Once you choose a gender preference and skin tone for your emoji, your choices are saved for future use.

Emoji will be available by default without turning any feature on. To access them, hover over any message or an existing anchor and click the "Add reaction" icon. The full list of emoji will appear. The emoji preferences you choose will carry over to Google Chat (and vice versa) and will be reflected in both apps. The feature has started rolling out to Google Workspace users, but it could take another week or two before the emoji appear.
