How to Find Lost Tool Bar Icons

Microsoft Windows Vista/XP allows you to easily find and then add lost toolbar icons to the toolbar. You can add the toolbar icons to (as well as remove them from) the taskbar and the Explorer window on Windows XP. Windows Vista allows you to add and remove toolbar icons on the taskbar, but not on the Explorer window. You can also add new toolbars on the taskbar to access different files and programs on your computer quickly.

Find Lost Toolbar Icon on Taskbar in Windows Vista/XP

Step 1

Right-click your computer taskbar.

Step 2

Click the "Toolbars" option on the taskbar menu that opens.

Step 3

Click to select a toolbar from the toolbar menu that you want to add on the taskbar.

Find Lost Toolbar Icons on the My Computer Window in Windows XP

Step 1

Click "Start," and then click "My Computer."

Step 2

Click the "View" menu on the My Computer window, point to "Toolbars," and then click "Customize."

Step 3

Click to select the toolbar icon that you want add to the current toolbar from the "Available toolbar" list in the Customize Toolbar dialog box and then click the "Add" button. The selected toolbar will be displayed on the current toolbar.


To add a new toolbar on the taskbar, right-click the taskbar, click the “Toolbars” option on the taskbar menu, and then click “New Toolbar.”
