How to Find the SSID on a Computer

By Jacklyn Dephoff

A service set identifier is the name of a wireless network. By default, the SSID is usually named for the wireless adapter or router you're using, such as Linksys or TP-LINK. You need to know the SSID of your network if you want to let others connect to it. If your network's protected, you need to give them the password as well.

Step 1

Click the Wireless Networking icon, which looks like several vertical bars, in the Notifications area of your taskbar.

Step 2

Find the wireless network that you are connected to, usually at the top of the list.

Step 3

Note the name of the network. This is its SSID.
