How to Get Up-to-Date Google Satellite Imagery

By Steve Gregory

With the Google Earth application, you can browse satellite images of locations around the world from your computer. You can view built-up cities as well as remote, sparsely populated areas such as deserts. Navigate the planet by typing in an address that you want to view or using the Google Earth navigation controls. Make sure the satellite images in the application are the most recent available from Google by using the “Check for Updates” feature to update the software.

Step 1

Launch Google Earth on your computer.

Step 2

Click "Help" in the menu bar.

Step 3

Click "Check for Updates Online" from the drop-down list. Google Earth checks the Google servers for available updates.

Step 4

Click "Install" to confirm that you want to install the update. Available updates are applied to Google Earth.
