Microsoft Outlook remains one of the most widely used email management programs in the world, largely because of its intuitive and sophisticated automated functions. Outlook's vast capabilities enable you to automate tasks like updating your appointment book, sending confirmations and creating forms for frequently sent types of correspondence. And, as with most Microsoft products, new versions are released every few years.
How to Install Microsoft Outlook from a Disc
Look at the system requirements printed on the outside of the disc packaging. Compare them to the system specs on your computer to determine if you meet the minimum system requirements. If you do not know how your computer compares to the minimum requirements, open the control panel and right-click on the "System" icon. Then click "Properties." Your system's specifications are listed in the window that appears.
Put the disc in your computer's disc drive. Close the drive door. Wait for the installation program to auto-start. If you have other applications running, close them now.
Click "OK" and "Next" on the first two dialogue boxes that appear, then enter your product code when prompted. Your unique product code should be printed on the disc's packaging.
Follow the on-screen prompts to decide whether you want normal installation or custom installation, which you might use if there are certain components of Microsoft Outlook that you do not want to install. You can also change the installation directory if you would like to install the program somewhere other than the default location.
Wait for the installation process to complete. This can take several minutes, depending on the speed of your computer. When the process is complete, click the "Finished" button on the installation wizard to close it. Microsoft Outlook email is now installed and ready to be used.
Installing Microsoft Outlook from Microsoft's Website
Explore the Microsoft website to determine which version of Outlook you would like to buy. Look for the system requirements for your desired version on the website and verify that your system is compatible, using the same method described in Step one of the first section.
Add your desired version to your cart and proceed through the checkout. Enter your personal and credit card information to complete your transaction.
Follow the prompts from Microsoft's website to download the installation file. When the file has finished downloading, open the file.
Access your current email client and check the email address you provided to Microsoft during the purchase process. You should have a confirmation email with a product code. Move the mouse cursor next to this code, then click and hold the left mouse button and drag the cursor over the code to highlight it. Press "Ctrl" and "C" on the keyboard to copy the code to the clipboard, then close your email client.
Close all other applications except for the installation wizard.
Click "OK" or "Next" on the dialogue boxes until you are prompted for your product code. When asked for the code, press "Ctrl" and "V" on the keyboard to paste your code into the boxes, then click "Next."
Change any installation settings on the next two screens; you can change the destination directory for the program installation and determine which specific aspects of Microsoft Outlook to install or omit.
Wait for the entire installation process to complete, then click the "Finished" button on the installation wizard. Microsoft Outlook email is now ready for you to use.
