How to Make Your Letters on the Computer Backwards

By Robert Schrader

Manipulating text you input into your computer not only makes it more interesting, but sometimes creates optical illusions. For example, flipping letters so they read backward can give the illusion of looking into a mirror. Whether you want to create a mirror illusion or want your text to appear backwards for any other reason, flip your text backward using free software that comes installed on your computer.

Step 1

Open the Windows "Start" menu. Click the "Paint" icon, which opens Microsoft Paint, Windows' free image editor.

Step 2

Click the "A" icon in the "Tools" pane of the "Home" tab. Input the text you wish to make read backwards.

Step 3

Return to the "Home" tab and click the "Rotate" drop-down menu in the "Image" pane. Click "Flip Horizontal" to make your text backwards.

Step 4

Hold down "Ctrl" and "S" to open a "Save" dialog box. Give your file a name and click "Save." Send the file to anyone you want to see your backwards text.
