How to Mount Your TV in Your Dorm Room

By David Lipscomb

Dorm rooms are usually smaller than students would like. Additionally, nearly all prohibit permanently mounting anything to a wall in case of damage or noise. Given the additional obstacle that many dorm walls are painted cinder block, the dilemma on how to mount a flat panel television is a real one. Fortunately, various manufacturers offer slim and unobtrusive flat panel floorstanding mounts, getting the set out of the way while offering a sleek appearance.

Step 1

Locate the four threaded inserts on the back of the television. Align the television mount's bracket with these holes.

Step 2

Drive four of the included Philips or Allen screws and washers through the back of the mount, into the inserts on the television. Do not over-tighten the screws.

Step 3

Lift the set onto the bar on the floor mount. Recruit a helper if necessary.

Step 4

Tighten the screws at the base of the bracket, securing it to mounting bar and preventing unwanted lateral shifting.

Step 5

Locate the floor mounted television in a space providing a good viewing angle in the room, or as out of the way as possible.
