How to Print 4 X 4 Pictures

By Ty Arthur

A normal inkjet or laser-style printer isn't big enough to print off sheets larger than standard 8 1/2 x 11 pieces of paper. If you want to print a larger image, such as by using a picture on your computer to print a poster, you don't need to pay a copy shop for a custom job. Instead, your printer's software has a built-in feature that lets you spread a single picture out across multiple sheets of paper. By changing a few options, your printer lets you print an image across 4 x 4 sheets of paper.

HP

Step 1

Open your image editing or viewing software and navigate to the "File" menu. Click "Open" and double-click the image you want to print as a 4 x 4 poster.

Step 2

Return to the "File" menu and access the "Print" entry. Click the "Print Properties" box at the upper-right corner of the window.

Step 3

Click the tab labeled "Finishing" at the top of the window. Click the "Papers per sheet and posters" button and scroll down to the "Poster 4 x 4" entry. Click the "Portrait" radio button if you want the image to print normally from top to bottom, or instead click "Landscape" if you want the image to be printed horizontally from left to right on each sheet of paper.

Tips & Warnings

  • You don't need to insert your paper in the printer's paper feed tray in any special way to print 4 x 4 posters. The printer automatically prints each sheet normally.
  • To assemble your poster, line up the edges of each of the pages and attach a strip of tape to the back of each sheet where the pages meet so they stay together.
