How to Remote Control Another Computer

By Sharon Harp

The Windows Remote Desktop application is installed by default on the Windows operating system; it's used to remotely control other computers through the Internet. If you want to control another computer that has the remote desktop application active and running on it, then you just need to know that computer's IP address and have a user account set up on the machine.

Step 1

Open the computer's Start Menu and type "remote desktop connection" into the search box.

Step 2

Press "Enter," to open the Remote Desktop client window. Type in the remote computer's IP address in the space provided.

Step 3

Click the "Connect" button, to initiate the connection, then type in your username and password when requested.

Step 4

Click "OK," and the connection should be established.
