How to Reset the Password on a 7941 Series Cisco IP Phone

You can reset your Cisco 7941 with certain button combinations.

If you have lost or forgotten the password for your 7941 series Cisco IP phone, you have no choice but to reset the password. With certain specific button combinations, you can remove the old password and restart the phone. This resets the password to the factory default, deleting your old password entirely. From there, you can change the password to something else or leave it as the default.

Step 1

Unplug the phone. Wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.

Hold down the "#" button.

Step 3

Release the "#" only when the Headset, Mute and Speaker buttons have all flashed.

Hit the following keys in order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, *, 0 and #. You have 60 seconds to do so. After 60 seconds, the phone will start up without resetting anything and you will have to start over.

Wait while the phone resets. This could take several minutes, during which time it will display "upgrading."

Enter the factory default password. It is the following three symbols: * * #.

Step 7

Enter a new password when prompted. Alternatively, you can skip this step to keep the default password (* * #).
