In previous versions of Windows, such as Windows XP and Windows ME, the keyboard layout could be adjusted only using a pane in the Control Panel. Microsoft introduced an easier method for selecting keyboards with the release of Windows Vista and kept the feature with the release of Windows 7. Referred to as the Language Bar, the task bar item allows you to adjust both the language and the layout of your computer's keyboard.
Right-click the task bar to reveal the task bar options menu. Click "Toolbars" and click "Language Bar." The keyboard layout item appears in the task bar.
Click the language listed in the Language Bar and click the language you want to apply to your keyboard. The default value for the keyboard in Windows 7 is English (American).
Click the layout listed in the Language Bar and click the layout you want to apply to your keyboard. The default value for the keyboard layout in Windows 7 is QWERTY.
