How to Change a TightVNC Password

TightVNC lets you share your computer with the world.

TightVNC is a small software program that allows users to view and control other computers on the Internet. Setup is fast, and you do not need to be a systems administrator to install it. The software consists of a server component and a client component. When you install the server, you have the option to choose a password. Remote users must enter this password to connect to your computer. Using TightVNC's administration panel, you can change that password without reinstalling the software.

Step 1

Click the Windows "Start" menu button and type "TightVNC." TightVNC programs will appear in the search results list at the top of the Start menu.

Double-click "Launch TightVNC Server." The "TightVNC Servier: Current User Properties" window will open.

Click the "Administration" tab at the top of the window.

Step 4

Click the Windows "Start" menu button and then click "All Programs." Locate the "TightVNC" folder. Click the folder to expand its contents.

Click "Administration" and then click "Show Default Settings." The "TIghtVNC Server: Current User Properties" window will open.

Enter a password in the "Primary Password" text box.

Enter a password in the "View-only Password" text box. This applies to other users who connect to your computer in view-only mode.

Step 8

Click "Apply" and then "OK."
