The computer ID, or name, is the title assigned to the computer when first installing the operating system. Changing your computer name can be necessary where you are connecting your computer to a local network, allowing you to more positively identify your machine with a unique name as opposed to a generic one such as "Computer." This can be quickly accomplished through options in your operating system.
