How to Maximize a Window Screen

By Travis Larson

While working with multiple windows and applications on your computer, it is often beneficial to resize windows in a way that allows you to view more than one at a time. Although smaller windows are useful for this purpose, eventually you need to restore the windows to maximum size. Microsoft's Windows operating system includes built-in buttons that automatically maximize the size and eliminate the need to manually reposition and adjust the window with your mouse.

Step 1

Click on the window you want to maximize so the entire window becomes visible and is not hidden behind other windows.

Step 2

Locate the three buttons in the top right corner of the window. The "Maximize" button is located between the "Minimize" and "Close" buttons.

Step 3

Click the "Maximize" button in the top right corner of the window to maximize its size.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also double-click on an empty space of the title bar to maximize the window. Some windows are a fixed size and cannot be maximized.
