How to Restore an iTunes Playlist

By Techwalla Computers Editor

iTunes is known for being one of the most convenient and widely-used music libraries for Mac and Windows computers. Users have the option to personalize their own iTunes playlist with their music library, which is a great way to organize your library. To restore an iTunes playlist, follow these tips:

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • iTunes account

Step 1

Turn on your computer and load iTunes. It is best to close out any other applications to make sure the program can run correctly.

Step 2

Click the File tab in the toolbar at the top of iTunes. Select Import. Pressing Crtl, Shift and O at the same time will also work to select Import.

Step 3

View the Import window that will pop up. Go through your files and locate the exported playlist files you wish to restore.

Step 4

Choose and open the selected playlists. Usually these are located on your desktop.

Step 5

Repeat the previous steps for any other playlists you wish to restore. These should appear on your iTunes side panel under Playlists once they have been restored.

Tips & Warnings

  • On-The-Go playlists, created with just your iPod, can also be restored if they were uploaded.
  • If you use an illegal downloading program and delete songs off of the program, your playlist will not be fully restored.
