Alexa is coming with you on vacation, and you don't even need to make room in your luggage. Amazon announced a new program called Alexa for Hospitality, which is designed to bring personalized hospitality to chain hotel rooms, vacation rental companies, and boutique lifestyle properties using its voice assistant technology.
The program is launching in partnership with Marriott International, which will roll out the new Alexa experience at select properties in Marriott Hotels, Westin Hotels & Resorts, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, Aloft Hotels, and Autograph Collection Hotels beginning this summer.
The system can be customized for a personalized guest experience, including finding out the check out time, where the gym is located, pool hours, as well as the ability to order room service, call the front desk, or request more towels. Alexa can also be configured to control "smart" hotel room functions, like the TV, adjusting the thermostat, and raising the blinds.
Guests can listen to their favorite music on the device and will soon be able to connect to their personal Amazon account, which will let them call personal contacts and listen to Audible audiobooks. Amazon says they will be logged out upon check out (although, you might want to double check that just in case).
Amazon says the system works with existing hotel technology, which allows guests to say things like "Alexa, order room service" or "Alexa, book a spa appointment." The requests will then be routed to property management, point of sale, and guest request systems for fulfillment.
Marriott says that Alexa for Hospitality will be rolled out to ten properties across the U.S. this summer.
