Orion Browser Beta for Linux Adds ARM64 Download Option
Kagi's Orion browser beta for Linux now ships separate downloads for x86_64 and ARM64 systems, according to the company's Linux page, updated two months ago (Orion Browser for Linux). That widens the hardware Orion targets beyond the x86_64 build listed in coverage of the beta's public launch five months ago (OMG! Ubuntu). Kagi's page lists both downloads as Beta 0.3, the same version number RuntimeWire found on the project's x86_64 Flatpak three weeks ago (RuntimeWire).
This report draws on Kagi's own materials and outside coverage of the beta, not fresh hands-on testing of the ARM64 build. What follows lays out what's changed and what still isn't independently confirmed.

Kagi built its name on a privacy-focused search engine, then began quietly expanding into a broader set of tools for people who would rather pay for software than be tracked by it, Tux Machines reported around the beta's March launch. Orion, its WebKit-based browser, is one of those tools.
Linux access started narrow. Paying Orion+ subscribers got alpha builds earlier this year, and the public beta followed in March, opening downloads to anyone rather than just subscribers (Tux Machines).
The app itself is a native GTK4/libadwaita build on WebKitGTK, the same engine family behind Safari, rather than a repackaged Chromium browser or a Firefox derivative, a rarity in a Linux browser market dominated by both (OMG! Ubuntu).
Kagi announced the release to its Linux newsletter subscribers, writing that the team had "been hard at work to make progress behind the scenes" and calling the beta "our first opportunity to let you get hands-on with the new features we've been developing" (OMG! Ubuntu).
OMG! Ubuntu, which installed the build on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, called it an "early beta" that is "functional, but intended for testing and bug reporting rather than daily driving." Kagi's own framing agrees: the company says feature parity with the finished macOS app is the goal, but "things have to start somewhere" (OMG! Ubuntu).
The macOS app provides a maturity comparison. Kagi calls it the project's flagship product, and it reached a production-ready 1.0 release last November after six years of development, the first two of which were carried out by a single developer before the team grew (Kagi Blog). The two versions sit at different stages: macOS is production-ready, while Linux remains an early beta.
Orion also runs on iPhone and iPad, where Kagi says it delivers native iOS performance (LavX News).

Installing the beta: what to expect

The Linux download ships as a Flatpak, and it doesn't update automatically. Each new version has to be fetched and installed by hand, and Ubuntu users need to add Flatpak support first, since it isn't included out of the box (OMG! Ubuntu).
In practice that means running a package install command before Orion will even open, then pointing Flatpak at the downloaded file to finish setup, according to OMG! Ubuntu's walkthrough of the process (OMG! Ubuntu). A first install also pulls in the GNOME 49 runtime, adding roughly 700MB of dependencies before the browser itself is installed (OMG! Ubuntu).
Kagi's Linux page now lists that GNOME 49 dependency alongside separate x86_64 and ARM64/aarch64 builds, where earlier coverage around the March launch listed an x86_64 build (Orion Browser for Linux; OMG! Ubuntu). None of that changes the manual-update model. Users must track and install new releases themselves, including any security fixes delivered through those releases.
An optional Orion+ subscription isn't required to run the beta, but it helps fund development and unlocks access to newer testing builds, along with more input into where development goes next (OMG! Ubuntu).
Orion browser privacy features and funding model

Kagi says Orion collects no usage data, including no analytics, identifiers, or tracking information, and that it doesn't use browsing activity to train AI systems (Kagi Blog). The company also says the browser ships with no built-in AI code in its core, designed instead to connect to whatever outside AI tools a user chooses (Kagi Blog).
Kagi repeats a version of that pledge on its Linux-specific marketing, stating flatly that "zero telemetry means zero: nothing sent, nothing tracked, nothing collected" (Orion Browser for Linux). Those claims form the core of Kagi's privacy pitch, including for Linux, though they remain company statements rather than the findings of an outside audit.
The browser is funded by subscriptions instead of advertising. Orion+ costs $5 a month or $50 a year, with a $150 lifetime option, and Kagi reported 2,480 paid subscribers around the time of its macOS 1.0 launch last November (Kagi Blog). Every user, subscriber or not, also gets 200 free Kagi searches with no account required, and using Orion itself, including the Linux beta, stays free (Kagi Blog).
Kagi's Linux product page goes further, claiming the browser uses half the memory Safari does and a fraction of what Chrome consumes, along with unspecified benchmark wins (Orion Browser for Linux). LavX News reports that independent reviews have separately praised Orion's speed, battery life, and resource use, though that reporting covers Orion generally and doesn't break results out by platform (LavX News). Nothing in the available reporting includes an independent benchmark of the Linux build specifically, so the memory and speed figures are best treated as claims to watch rather than settled results.
Extension support: the pitch and the guarantee
Orion's WebKit base is part of Kagi's broader pitch: the company markets it as the only browser supporting extensions built for Safari, Chrome, and Firefox at once, positioning it as a user-funded alternative to Chromium-based browsers (RuntimeWire). That cross-browser claim describes Orion overall, and the available reporting doesn't specify how many of those extensions have been verified on the Linux beta specifically.
The guarantee itself has two slightly different numbers attached. LavX News reports that Kagi guarantees more than 20 extensions will work, while RuntimeWire describes Orion's extensions directory as promoting 20 curated entries that Kagi guarantees will work (LavX News; RuntimeWire). Either way, anything outside that curated list depends on ongoing compatibility testing rather than a guarantee. For Linux users deciding whether a favorite extension will work, that curated list is the clearest commitment Kagi has made public.
What's still unproven
Orion's push across four platforms, macOS, iOS, Linux, and a Windows build still in alpha, is currently carried out by a team of six developers, according to Kagi's own account of the project (Kagi Blog).
Windows has no public release date in the materials RuntimeWire reviewed, even though Kagi had previously targeted a late-2026 launch when it announced Orion 1.0 for Mac last November (RuntimeWire; Kagi Blog). Kagi's stated goal for Windows is full parity with the finished macOS app, including synced profiles and shared Orion+ benefits across platforms, but LavX News notes the work will still need to resolve engine integration, extension compatibility, and hardware support before it can meet the expectations of users who want a stable daily browser (Kagi Blog; LavX News).
Kagi's user numbers carry a similar gap. The company reported more than 1 million downloads around its macOS 1.0 launch, and later marketing has cited 4 million users without specifying whether that figure counts downloads, installations, registrations, or something else (RuntimeWire). The two figures measure different things, and without a defined metric, it's hard to say how much growth, if any, separates them.
The outstanding questions are whether independent testing supports Kagi's Linux performance and privacy claims, how many extensions work beyond the guaranteed list, and whether Windows keeps to its previously announced schedule.
