Microsoft Excel allows users to create, modify and organize a visually appealing and presentable spreadsheet to share with co-workers and clients. While the formulas and functions of Microsoft Excel can be hard to learn and remember, knowing how to input the formulas can save you valuable time on calculations. With simple addition and multiplication formulas and few clicks and drags of the mouse, you can add the total of each column and find the product of the two columns.
Launch the Excel program, and open the spreadsheet you want to modify by left-clicking on the "File" tab and choosing the "Open" option from the drop-down menu. Find and highlight the file, and press "OK" to open.
Click on the cell where you want the final value of your first column be displayed. Type the formula " =SUM() " (without the quotes) into the cell you have chosen.
Click in the space between the parenthesis of the formula " =SUM()," and click on the first cell in the first column you want to find the sum. Drag the mouse down the column until you reach the last cell you want to add and release the mouse. Once you are sure you have selected all the cells you want to add in the first column, press the "Enter" button on your keyboard to generate the sum. Repeat the summing process for the second column of data.
Click on another cell where the multiplied answer of the two columns will be displayed. Type the equal sign (=) into the empty cell, and left-click on the cell you created for the first column. Press the asterisk key (_) and select the cell you created for the second column. For example, if you used cell A5 and B5, your formula would look like this: " =A5_B5 "
Press the "Enter" key on your keyboard to multiply the answers of the two columns together. Your result should be generated in the cell you have chosen in Step 5.
