Videos displayed on a digital television are no longer constrained to the single size of the analog tube-based TV. You can adjust the picture size of the TV screen to accommodate a variety of different sized images -- for example, a widescreen DVD or a high-definition television signal. The procedure involves the remote control that comes with the digital television. You can also undo any changes made to the picture size later if you want.

A good TV remote lets you adjust picture size.

Step

Press the power button on the remote to turn the TV on from "standby" mode.

Step

Press the "Menu' button on the remote. Select the "Settings" or "Tools" menu -- depending on the make of the remote -- using the direction keys. Press the "Enter" or "Select" button to enter a new screen, depending on the make of the remote.

Step

Select the "Picture size" or similarly named icon or text from the screen, using the direction keys. Press the "Enter" or "Select" button to activate the setting.

Step

Select an aspect ratio from the list of choices presented on the screen by pressing left and right on the direction keys. Select an aspect ratio from the list being seen, for example, "letterbox" or "4:3."

Step

Press the "Exit" button or "Menu" button -- depending on the make of the remote -- to exit the setting and return to the TVs main screen.
