There are multiple ways to reboot a computer.

Step

Click "Start," then "Restart."

Step

Press "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" simultaneously. Then select the "Restart" option.

Step

Press and hold the computer's power key. Most systems will power down after about five seconds. Because this method will force a hard power-down, which does not give hardware or software any warning that power is about to be cut, data can be lost. For this reason, a hard power-down should only be performed if other efforts to restart the computer do not work.

Step

Unplug your computer and plug it back in. Turn the computer back on. This will also force a hard power-down, so you should only do it if other methods did not work.

Step

Shut down your computer. Wait 30 seconds.

Step

Turn your computer back on. Immediately press and hold the "F8" key.

Step

When the "Advanced Boot Options" screen appears, select "Safe Mode" using the arrow keys on your computer and hit "Enter."

Step

Place a bootable system CD or DVD into the disc drive.

Step

Restart your computer.

Step

When prompted, hit any key to boot the computer using the disc.

Step

Contact your computer's manufacturer if this does not work, and you are sure the CD or DVD is good. Your computer may not be set up correctly and various troubleshooting methods are required to figure out what is not working.
