How to Convert a PKA File to a PKT File

By Chris Hoffman

Cisco Packet Tracer, a network simulation program used for education, stores data in PKA and PKT files. A PKA file contains two separate PKT files, one that defines the characteristics of the initial network and one for the answer network. The initial network is the network configuration students start with, and the answer network is the configuration students need to reach from the initial network. Convert a PKA file to two PKT files by exporting each network from the PKA file in Packet Tracer.

Step 1

Click the "File" menu, select "Open," browse to the PKA file on your computer and double-click it.

Step 2

Click the "File" menu and select "Activity Wizard."

Step 3

Click the "Answer Network" link at the left side of the Activity Wizard window.

Step 4

Click the "Export Answer Network to File" button in the Import/Export section, browse to a location for the answer network's PKT file on your computer, type a name for it and click "Save."

Step 5

Click the "Initial Network" link at the left side of the Activity Wizard window.

Step 6

Click the "Export Initial Network to File" button in the Import/Export section, browse to a location for the initial network's PKT file on your computer, type a name for it and click "Save."
