How to Delete Bookmarks on a Mac

You can use any browser on your Mac computer to bookmark a favorite website. The process for deleting these bookmarks once you are done with them depends entirely on the browser you are using on your Mac.

How to Delete Bookmarks on Mac Safari

Safari is the built-in web browser on Mac computers. Like other browsers, it allows users to save and manage their bookmarks. You can categorize your bookmarks in folders or have them displayed on Safari's menu bar below the URL field. Delete bookmarks on a Mac by launching Safari, clicking the "Sidebar" button in the toolbar and clicking the "Bookmarks" button. Right-click or control-click on the bookmark or bookmark folder that you want to delete and choose "Delete" from the context menu to remove that bookmark on your Mac. To delete multiple bookmarks, hold down the "Command" key while selecting each bookmark and then press the "Delete" key on your Mac. Note that bookmarks cannot be recovered after they are deleted.

Delete Bookmarks on Chrome

You delete bookmarks on Google Chrome on your Mac by accessing Chrome's Bookmark Manager. Launch Chrome on your Mac and then click the "Bookmarks" option in your Mac menu bar on the top of the screen. Click "Bookmark Manager" to open the Bookmark Manager tab on Chrome. Double-click on the folder that contains the bookmark that you want to delete and then right-click the bookmark and select "Delete." Delete multiple bookmarks on Chrome by holding down the "Command" key, clicking each bookmark that you want to delete and then pressing the "Delete" key. Chrome confirms the deletion but offers an Undo option. If you don't select "Undo" when it appears, the bookmark is not retrievable.

Delete Bookmarks on Firefox

Mozilla Firefox is another browser option on Mac that has a bookmarking feature. You can delete bookmarks on Firefox by launching the app and then clicking the "Books" icon in the top right corner of the browser. Click "Bookmarks," locate the folder that contains your bookmarks, and right-click or control-click on the bookmark you want to remove. Select "Delete" in the drop-down menu to delete the bookmark permanently.

Delete Bookmarks on Opera

You can also save or remove website bookmarks on your Opera browser. Delete bookmarks on your Opera browser by opening the browser and then clicking the "Menu" option in the top right corner of the browser. Select "Bookmarks" to open Opera's bookmark manager. Double-click on the folder that contains the bookmark that you want to remove and then click on that bookmark. Press the "Delete" key on your Mac. Use the "Command" key to select multiple bookmarks and then press the "Delete" key to delete these in bulk.
