How to Delete Bookmarks on a Mac

By Andrew Tennyson

Learn how to delete bookmarks in the Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome browsers running on your Mac computer.

Whether you're working with Safari, Firefox or Google Chrome, the Web browser on your Mac OS X Yosemite computer has a dedicated bookmarks manager designed to help you edit your bookmarks. In all three instances, deleting a bookmark is simply a matter of opening the bookmarks manager, finding the item you want to remove and clicking Delete.

Safari (Version 8)

Step 1

Click Bookmarks on the main menu along the top of your Mac’s screen and select Edit Bookmarks to open Safari’s dedicated Bookmarks window.

Tip

This part of the process may vary slightly depending on your version of Safari. In some versions, you select Show Bookmarks instead of Edit Bookmarks. In Safari 8, you can also click the Show Sidebar icon to display the sidebar and then edit your bookmarks there.

Step 2

Click the arrow icon next to a folder to view the bookmarks in that folder. Skip this step if the bookmark you want to delete is not stored in a folder.

Step 3

Hold down the Control button, click the bookmark you want to delete and select Delete on the pop-up menu.

Depending on how your Mac is configured, you may also be able to two-finger tap your trackpad or Magic Mouse to display this pop-up menu.

Firefox (Version 37)

Step 1

Click Bookmarks on the main menu along the top of the screen and select Show All Bookmarks on the drop-down menu to launch Firefox’s bookmarks manager.

Select Bookmarks Toolbar if your bookmark is saved on the main toolbar rather than in a folder or as part of the unsorted items.
