The Basic Input Output System (BIOS) is a set of instructions your Toshiba Tecra uses to verify all its components are working before loading the operating system. You can change several settings in the BIOS if you need to change the way your laptop boots up, such as if you wanted to load an operating system from a USB drive. The BIOS can't be accessed directly through the operating system like any other menu, and must instead be accessed by restarting the laptop.
