How to Fix the Scratches on an LCD TV Screen

LCD screens are found on many modern devices.

LCDs are an attractive choice for many television, monitor and other screen buyers, considering the impressive image quality the devices offer. However, LCD screens are also slightly more susceptible to minor scratching than conventional screens are. But getting rid of minor scratches can be very easy and require only common household items. So stop being annoyed by that scratch in the middle of your screen and don't even think of replacing your screen before you have tried a few of these do-it-yourself options.

Isopropyl Alcohol Method

Step 1

Make sure your LCD screen is unplugged and far away from other electrical appliances or wall outlets before beginning.

Dilute isopropyl alcohol in a 50-50 solution with water.

Step 3

Dip a non-abrasive cloth into the solution and gently clean the scratched area of your LCD screen.

In the case of large cracks, fill the crack with Vaseline and remove the excess with the same alcohol-soaked cloth.

Pencil Eraser Method

Step 1

Clean the surface around the scratch with water and alcohol as above.

Gently rub the scratch with a soft pencil eraser, smoothing over the anti-glare coating on the LCD screen.

Step 3

Clean the surface with the non-abrasive cloth.

For Heavy Scratching: Auto Rubbing Coumpound and Lacquer

Step 1

Clean the scratched surface with water and isopropyl alcohol as above.

Apply a small amount of auto rubbing compound to the scratch and polish the scratched area with a non-abrasive cloth, gently removing the anti-glare coating in the area.

Step 3

Clean the area with the water and isopropyl alcohol solution.

Step 4

Dry the area.

Step 5

Apply clear spray lacquer to the polished area. Be sure not to spray lacquer outside of the area you polished; cover the rest of the screen with paper if necessary. Allow the lacquer to dry before turning on the screen.
