When files are downloaded to your computer, they are usually in the zipped format. In order to unlock these zipped files, you will either need to use a program like WinZip or something similar. On a PC, you can use a few clicks of your mouse even without a program to unzip files.

Unlocking a File With WinZip

Step 1

Visit the WinZip website (see Resources).

Click on "Get Free Trial."

Step 3

Enter your e-mail address and then click "Download Evaluation" in order to try WinZip for 45 days.

Download the program.

Open the file you wish to unzip. Right-click it and choose "Open With" and then select "Browse."

Step 6

Locate WinZip and select it. Click "OK."

Unlocking a File on a PC

Step 1

Open the file you wish to unzip.

Step 2

Right-click on the file and choose "Extract All."

Choose the file that you wish to place the extracted files in.

Step 4

Check the box that says "Show extracted files when complete."

Step 5

Click "Extract."
