How to Upload an Entire Folder Using Your cPanel File Manager

By Kate Bluest

Uploading files one at a time through the File Manager in cPanel can be time-consuming if you have many files to upload. To simplify the task, upload the files in a zipped file, and extract the files after the upload. Even with this method, some companies limit the size of the files you can upload. This file-size limitation varies from company to company. You must know this limit so that your zip folders do not exceed the size requirement.

Step 1

Navigate to the folder you want to upload. Right-click on the folder. Select “Send To,” then select “Compressed (zipped) Folder” to compress the files into a zip folder. If you prefer a different method or program to compress your files into zip folders, use your method.

Step 2

Open the browser you prefer, and sign in to your cPanel account. Type “file” into the “Find” text box at the top of the left menu.

Step 3

Click the “File Manager” icon found to the right of the left menu to open the “File Manager Directory Selection” dialog box. Select your file manager directory, check any options you prefer, and click the “Go” button to open the cPanel File Manager in a new tab.

Step 4

Navigate to the location where you want to upload the folder. Navigate using the left menu or double-click on the folder in the right window.

Step 5

Click the “Upload” icon at the top of the “File Manager” to open the “Upload files” window in a new tab.

Step 6

Review the “Maximum File Size allowed for uploads” at the top of the “Upload files” tab. Check your zip folder to make sure it is small enough to be uploaded. If the information is not visible, select the zip folder. The information pop-up that appears will contain the size of the file. If you miss this, right click on the file, select “Properties” to open the “Properties” dialog box, and review the size on the “General” tab. Click the “OK” button when you are done. If the file is too big, break up the folder, and create smaller zip folders.

Step 7

Click the “Browse” button on the “Upload files” tab in the browser. Navigate to and select the zip folder you want to upload. Click the “Open” button to upload the file. Click the “Back to directory” link at the bottom of the page to return to the “File Manager” tab.

Step 8

Select the zip folder in the “File Manager” tab, and click the “Extract” icon at the top of the “File Manager” tab to extract the files from the zip menu. If you are not happy with the location of the files, select the files, and click the “Move File” icon at the top of the “File Manager.” This opens the “Move” dialog box. Type in the destination you prefer.
