Package theft is a thing that has, at one point or another, likely affected all Amazon customers—or at least someone you know. Amazon is taking another step to ensure your packages stay safe once they've arrived at your home.
Key for Garage was announced back in January, and it has finally launched in 50 cities throughout the U.S. The new service is an expansion of the company's existing Amazon Key service, which gives Amazon's drivers access to deliver packages directly into your home or the trunk of your car.
To use Key for Garage, check out Amazon's tool that lets you check the compatibility of your garage door. You can also check to see if the service is available in your area. If your garage door isn't compatible, Amazon will sell you a myQ Smart Garage Hub to retrofit your existing garage door opener for an introductory price of $50 (regular price is $80).
Prime members with myQ compatible garage door openers can opt-in to use the service at checkout once the hardware is set up.
Here's how it works
The service gives you remote access to your garage, so if you happen to leave it open, you can shut it from anywhere using the Key by Amazon app. You can also keep an eye on who's coming and going from your garage using an Amazon Cloud Cam, which is available as a bundle with the Smart Garage Hub for an introductory price of $125 (regular price is $200).
