Instagram can be a great place to share photos, keep in touch with friends and family, and scroll through endless amounts of photos and videos from people you may or may not know. But it can also be a place where you find yourself (or your kids) being trolled or harassed. If that's the case, the blocking feature really comes in handy.

Blocking a user on Instagram prohibits them from following you, messaging you, seeing your posts or your stories. You can also block someone who isn't following you.

The good thing about blocking someone (other than the person disappearing from your social media life) is that Instagram doesn't notify them when they've been blocked or unblocked. You can also choose to block any other profile they create using the same email address, and you can change your mind and unblock them at any point.
