How to Connect to the Internet Using An Ethernet Cable
Modern computers can access the Internet in many ways. While many computers access the Internet through Wi-Fi, some computers do not have the capabilities. If you have an Ethernet port, you can connect your computer to the Internet using a Ethernet cord and a DSL or cable modem. You can connect Macs and PCs to the Internet in this way, as long as they have Ethernet ports available.
Things You'll Need
- Ethernet cable
- DSL or Cable modem
Plug your DSL or cable modem into a power source.
Plug the DSL modem into a phone line using the "WAN" or "Line" port or plug the cable modem into the cable port.
Plug the Ethernet cable into the DSL or cable modem using the "Ethernet" port. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into your computer's Ethernet port.
Open the Internet browser on your computer.
Tips & Warnings
- For PC, open the "Control Panel" in the Start menu. Click on "Network and Internet" and click "Connect to the Internet" if it does not connect automatically.
- Make sure any Wi-Fi cards are turned off on your computer if you want to connect to the Internet using Ethernet.
