How to Copy Text on an iPhone

By KR Knowlin

The Apple iPhone provides a lot of the same commands and functions present on your laptop or desktop. You can select a single word or a block of text and copy it. This will save you time and allow you to type, rearrange and send text faster. Instead of accomplishing this with a mouse, the iPhone uses insertion points that are similar to cursors on computer word editing programs.

Step 1

Press the "Home" button, then slide your finger over the unlock prompt to access the iPhone's home screen.

Step 2

Navigate to the text you want to copy.

Step 3

Touch and hold your finger on the text your wish to copy. This will activate the magnifying glass and an insertion point.

Step 4

Drag the insertion point to the beginning of the text you want to copy.

Step 5

Tap the insertion point. The selection options will appear.

Step 6

Tap "Select" to select text next to the insertion point. Tap "Select All" to select all of the text. Alternatively, you can also double-tap a word to select it.

Step 7

Drag the insertion points so they highlight all of the text you want to copy.

Step 8

Tap "Copy" from the options that automatically appear.
