How to Create an Anonymous Email Address

By Shelby Winchell

Creating an anonymous email account is easy and free. Perhaps you want to send an email but don't want the person on the receiving end to know it is from you. This is why you may want to create an anonymous account. In order to open an account with Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo!, you will need to enter your first and last names, ZIP code, date of birth and state of residence. This information will remain private and will not be disclosed in the email. This is a requirement of all three email companies.

Hotmail

Step 1

Create a Windows Live ID at https://signup.live.com/signup.aspx?ru=http%3a%2f%2fmail.live.com%2f%3frru%3dinbox&wa=wsignin1.0&rpsnv=11&ct=1267585125&rver=6.0.5285.0&wp=MBI&wreply=http:%2F%2Fmail.live.com%2Fdefault.aspx&lc=1033&id=64855&mkt=en-us&bk=1267585125&rollrs=12&lic=1. This will be your email address. You can enter "Anonymous," but you will have to enter a few numbers to keep it distinct since the email address anonymous@hotmail.com is already taken.

Step 2

Create a password that is at least six characters long and then retype the password.

Step 3

Enter an alternate email address or choose a security question. In case you ever forget your password, this allows it to be retrieved.

Step 4

Enter your first and last name, state, ZIP code, gender and birth date. This information will remain anonymous but must be entered in order to create a new account.

Step 5

Fill in the characters displayed in the box and then click "I accept" to create a new account.

Gmail

Step 1

Enter your first and last name on the Gmail "Create an Account" page at https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount?service=mail&continue=http%3A%2F%2Fmail.google.com%2Fmail%2Fe-11-11975e95be4486c089fbdf911e630711-7065dc52d84521fe76a0c96859e6faa8e718178f&type=2. This information will remain anonymous but is required to create an account.

Step 2

Select a login name. You can use the word "anonymous" but you may have to add some numbers to it since the email address anonymous@gmail.com is already taken. You can also pick another name that is different from your own.

Step 3

Choose a password that is at least eight characters in length.

Step 4

Select a security question and answer it in the space provided. This will come in handy if you ever forget your password.

Step 5

Enter an alternate email address where Gmail can communicate with you to set up the account, as well as your birthday. Type the word displayed, and then click "I accept" to open the account.

Yahoo!

Step 1

Enter your first and last name, along with your gender, birthday and postal code at https://edit.yahoo.com/registration?.intl=us&.pd=ym_ver%253D0%2526c%253D%2526ivt%253D%2526sg%253D&new=1&.done=http%3A//mail.yahoo.com&.src=ym&.v=0&.u=appspv95orl43&partner=&.partner=&pkg=&stepid=&.p=&promo=&.last=. This information will remain anonymous but is required in order to get a new Yahoo! email address.

Step 2

Create a Yahoo! email address and password. You can use the word "anonymous" in your email name, but you will need a few numbers either before or after the word since the email address anonymous@yahoo.com is already taken.

Step 3

Enter an alternate email address and the answers to two different security questions. This is required for all users and is used if you ever forgot your username or password.

Step 4

Type in the code shown in the box, and then click "Create My Account" to create a Yahoo! email address.
