How to Download Songs From YouTube to an MP3 Player

All of the content on YouTube is streamed in FLV format. Even if YouTube allowed you to download videos directly -- as of July 2010, it does not -- the video would have to be converted to a format that will play on your MP3 player. There are various programs that will download videos from YouTube. Some of the programs, such as the YouTube Downloader, will also convert the video into various formats, including MP3. Once converted, you can use a program such as Windows Media Player to transfer the MP3 to your MP3 player. The quality of the MP3 will be similar to listening to it on the actual YouTube player.

Downloading Songs From YouTube

Step 1

Download the YouTube Downloader program from the "Resources" link below. Double-click the exe file to begin the installation. Follow the user specific instructions to complete the installation. When prompted, open the YouTube Downloader.

Right-click the URL of the YouTube page that has the song you want to save and click "Copy."

Paste the URL into the "Enter video URL" section on the YouTube Downloader program. Click the "Download video from YouTube" option. Click "OK."

Wait until the download is complete. Click the "Convert video (previously downloaded) from file" option. Select the drop-down box under "Convert To" and click "MPEG Audio Layer 3 (MP3)." Click "OK" to begin converting your recently downloaded video file into MP3 format, which will play on your MP3 player. When asked, save the file to your desktop.

Transferring Files to Your MP3 Player

Step 1

Start Windows Media Player. Connect the MP3 player to your computer using its USB cable.

Step 2

Click the "Sync" button at the top-right section of Windows Media Player.

Drag and drop your recently downloaded and converted MP3 file into the "List" window below the Sync button.

Step 4

Click the "Start Sync" button.
